Ignition Repair — FAQ
My key turns halfway and stops — is that the cylinder or the immobilizer?
Usually it is the cylinder wafers worn out (decades of wear). It can also be a stuck steering wheel — try wiggling the wheel left-right while turning the key. If neither works, on-site diagnosis identifies the issue in 5–10 minutes.
The key snapped off in the ignition — what now?
Do not try to glue it. Do not run the engine. Call us — we use a broken-key extractor (a thin barbed pick) to pull the blade fragment in 2–5 minutes. Then we cut a new key and decide whether the cylinder needs rekey or replacement.
I see a flashing red key light on my dash — what is that?
That is the immobilizer light. It means the chip in your key is not authenticating with the security module. Causes: chip damage, transponder antenna fault, or low car battery. Diagnose first, replace second.
Will a new ignition cylinder change my key?
Not necessarily. We can rekey the new cylinder to match your existing key (preferred — saves you from carrying two keys). On some vehicles the cylinder must be matched-set to the original immobilizer, in which case we cut and program a fresh key.
Locked out or lost your keys? We can be there in 20–45 minutes.
