My Mercedes dealer quoted $1,400 for a new key — is mobile really cheaper?
Usually, yes. A 2018+ Mercedes FBS4 smart key from a dealer commonly runs $800–$1,500 plus tow ($75–$250). Mobile programming typically runs $450–$1,100 depending on whether the immobilizer needs Online SCN coding through Daimler's portal.
Can you program an Audi MQB key on-site without going to the dealer?
Yes — but only if the locksmith holds both AVDI VAG Component Protection licensing AND active NASTF VSP for online VAG portal access. We do. Locksmiths without both credentials cannot complete MQB jobs legitimately and will damage the immobilizer if they try shortcuts.
What's the deal with BMW CAS vs FEM vs BDC?
Three generations of BMW security modules. CAS (Car Access System, 2001–2014) is older and well-supported. FEM (Front Electronic Module, F-chassis, 2014–2020) needs a soldering bench-write on the EEPROM if all keys are lost. BDC (Body Domain Controller, G-chassis, 2018+) requires the latest tooling. We carry all three workflows.
Will programming a new key wipe any of my settings?
No. Adding a key to the immobilizer affects only the key list. It does not touch radio presets, seat memory, MyKey, or driver profiles. The only exception is BMW FEM all-keys-lost — which requires module isolation for the security write, then everything reconnects clean.
